Aston martin fall from grace amplified at Mexico

Alonso Shifts Aston Martin's Focus Towards Future development for 2024

Fernando Alonso, the world-renowned Formula 1 driver, recently made it clear that his team, Aston Martin, is no longer in contention for significant victories this season. Despite being a strong contender for the third spot in the world championship just last month during the Italian Grand Prix, a series of unfortunate events have now left him in the fifth position. The challenge has been further intensified by the likes of Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and George Russell, who have steadily climbed up, threatening his standings.

Aston Martin's overall performance has mirrored Alonso's journey this season. Currently seated in the fifth spot in the constructors' championship, their position is rather stagnant. They face no imminent threat from the rear, with McLaren having already surpassed them.

Mexico was a weekend to forget for the team and particularly for Alonso. Starting in the 13th position, his chances plummeted further, owing to a suspected floor damage from debris ensuing Sergio Perez's accident in the initial corner. This led to the car's early retirement. Lance Stroll, Alonso's team-mate, began from the pitlane due to a spec change. However, he had to bow out prematurely following an accident with Valtteri Bottas.

Commenting on the impending race in Brazil, Alonso stated that, "Honestly, we are not fighting for anything." He underscored the team's approach for the remainder of the season, emphasizing on learning and gaining valuable experience over short-term wins.

Despite this challenging phase, Alonso is confident about the team's commitment. He expressed, "We are working as much as we can." Alonso believes that confronting difficulties can offer richer insights compared to easy wins. The team's primary objective is to derive as much data as possible from the upcoming circuits, and feed that back into their Silverstone factory.

However, for fans expecting a miraculous turnaround within this season, Alonso's message was clear. He commented, "I don't think we will fight for podiums." But he also conveyed hope, emphasizing that a competitive finish to the season was still within reach.

As the season progresses, it is evident that Alonso and Aston Martin are already looking beyond 2023, aiming to build on their current experiences for a stronger comeback in the subsequent seasons.
