Big line up for World Time Attack
The highly anticipated Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge Sydney 2023 is drawing near, set to take place at Sydney Motorsport Park (SMP) on September 1-2. Since its inception with the inaugural Superlap Australia event at Oran Park Raceway in 2008, SMP has been a consistent host of the World Time Attack Challenge since 2010. The event has grown to become one of the most attended motorsport events globally, and the Sydney round has established itself as one of the world's premier Time Attack festivals.
The upcoming event promises a thrilling lineup of both returning favorites and exciting new entrants, all geared up to demonstrate their prowess on the track. With a rich history of Time Attack racing originating in Japan, the competition is set to kick off with a selection of impressive entries making the journey across the Philippine Sea to SMP.
Among the standout contenders is the ARVOU Racing Shop, a renowned Honda Tuning house from Japan, confirming the participation of its iconic ARVOU S2000, piloted by Yusaku Shibata, featuring the potent HKS Supercharged F20C motor. Mitsuyoshi Nishio, a WTAC newcomer, is expected to make waves in the Pro Am field with his 1000hp S13 Onevia, known for consistently achieving sub-53-second lap times at Tsukuba circuit.
The Hokkaido Dream Racing Mazda RX-7, driven by Tetsuhiro Kurokawa, boasts a striking new aero kit crafted by Japanese aero specialists, Voltex. Australian contenders are also poised to make their mark, with Matt Plowman's Scura Motorsport Lotus Exige, a decade-in-the-making powerhouse, and Stephen Faulks' Bitten Motorsport WRX STI, rebuilt for high performance and quick acceleration, both adding to the excitement in the Pro Am category.
The event will feature not only on-track speed but also a celebration of engineering excellence. Red Bull Air Race Champion Matt Hall will provide aerial thrills, while drift icon Mad Mike Whiddett and Japanese drift maestro Daigo Saito are set to participate in the Garrett International Drifting Cup. The renowned US figure Ryan Tuerck will showcase his impressive Toyota GR Supra, equipped with a Formula One derived four-liter Le Mans-spec Judd V10 power unit capable of reaching a thrilling 11,000 RPM.
