David Reynolds to leave Penrite Grove Racing

Penrite Racing has officially announced that David Reynolds will be departing the team at the conclusion of the 2023 Supercars season. In a brief statement from the Braeside-based outfit, it was confirmed that Reynolds' contract will not be renewed for 2024, and they extended their best wishes for his future endeavors.

Currently partnered with rookie Matt Payne at Grove Racing, Reynolds' exit paves the way for a replacement driver for the 2024 season, though no official announcement has been made. Speculation links Triple Eight Race Engineering's enduro co-driver, Richie Stanaway, to the vacant seat in the #26 Ford Mustang that Reynolds has been driving.

Owner Stephen Grove expressed his initial goal of achieving at least a top five or preferably a top three position in the teams' championship for this year. However, the team currently finds itself in 10th place, ahead of only Tickford Racing's second Mustangs and the single-car Blanchard Racing Team among the Blue Oval contingent.

Although Grove didn't wholeheartedly endorse Reynolds during recent statements, the veteran driver had remained under consideration for a contract renewal until recent weeks. It is now believed that Reynolds is set to join Team 18, taking over the seat currently occupied by Scott Pye.

Reynolds is essentially in his second stint at the team now known as Grove Racing. He spent the 2011 season at Kelly Racing before moving to Tickford Racing, where he secured his first Supercars Championship race win. Following his time at Tickford, Reynolds joined Erebus Motorsport and claimed the pinnacle of his career by winning the 2017 Bathurst 1000 alongside Luke Youlden in an underdog victory.
