Grove Racing confirm Richie Stanaway for 2024

Penrite Racing has officially announced that Richie Stanaway will join the team for the 2024 Supercars Championship season, taking over the seat previously occupied by David Reynolds.

With this signing, Penrite Racing will have an all-Kiwi lineup at Braeside, as rookie Matt Payne, confirmed for 2023, will continue with the team on a long-term deal.

The decision to bring in Stanaway comes after Grove Racing confirmed the departure of David Reynolds through a brief statement earlier today.

Team owner Stephen Grove expressed his excitement about Stanaway's inclusion, noting that his experience and feedback will contribute to the team's development and its ability to compete for race wins and championships.

Richie Stanaway's journey in the Supercars paddock has been marked by ups and downs. Despite having participated in only one start, a wildcard entry at the 2022 Bathurst 1000 with Erebus Motorsport, Stanaway's performance caught attention, particularly his fifth-fastest qualifying time in the rain and an 11th-place finish alongside Greg Murphy.

This performance earned him the co-driver role alongside Shane van Gisbergen at Triple Eight Race Engineering, although this year Triple Eight chose Erebus Motorsport's Will Brown to partner van Gisbergen, freeing up Stanaway.

Stanaway expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to join Penrite Racing and praised the team's direction in recent years. He is eager to see what the partnership can achieve in the Gen3 era of Supercars.

Stanaway, known for his successes in GP2 and the World Endurance Championship, notably clinched victory in the 2017 Sandown 500 as co-driver to Cam Waters of Tickford Racing.

After a stint with Tickford in 2018 and a challenging season with Garry Rogers Motorsport, Stanaway took a temporary exit from motorsport. However, he has remained active, participating in Triple Eight's GT World Challenge program this year.

Grove Racing will also have the support of experienced co-drivers Garth Tander and Kevin Estre for its enduro campaign. While Stanaway's addition to the team has been confirmed, the partner for Matt Payne and the co-driver for David Reynolds are yet to be announced.

Stanaway is set to participate in further testing at Queensland Raceway next month before the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 event scheduled for September 15-17. His comeback to the Supercars grid is generating anticipation and excitement among fans and the motorsport community.
