Jack Doohan makes F1 dream come true with Alpine signing him for 2025
Jack Doohan Promoted to F1 for 2025: Alpine Confirms Partnership with Gasly
Alpine has confirmed that Jack Doohan, their current reserve driver, will join Pierre Gasly on the grid for the 2025 Formula 1 season, replacing Esteban Ocon. The 21-year-old Australian, son of former 500cc motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, has been part of the Alpine Academy since 2022, following a switch from the Red Bull junior program. Doohan’s promotion comes after a strong performance in the 2023 Formula 2 season, where he secured third place with three race wins, building on his runner-up finish in the 2021 F3 standings.
Doohan’s potential promotion has been a hot topic in the paddock throughout the 2024 season, with speculation intensifying after it was revealed that Ocon would leave Alpine to join Haas. The announcement of Doohan’s promotion was made as the F1 circus returned to Zandvoort to begin the second half of the season, confirming that the team’s reserve driver would step up to a full-time race seat.
Over the past two years, Doohan has accumulated significant experience in F1 machinery with Alpine, taking part in numerous private tests and making six appearances in FP1 sessions. His participation included sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi in both 2022 and 2023, as well as outings in Canada and Britain earlier this year. This hands-on experience has equipped Doohan with valuable insights and prepared him for the transition to a full-time racing role.
Reflecting on his promotion, Doohan expressed his excitement and gratitude: “I am so happy to secure promotion into a full-time race seat in 2025 with BWT Alpine F1 Team. I am very grateful for the trust and belief by the team’s senior management. There is so much work ahead to be prepared and ready, and I will give my best in the meantime to absorb as much information and knowledge to be ready for the step up.”
Doohan also highlighted the significance of being the first graduate of the Alpine Academy to secure a race seat with the team, saying, “It’s exceptionally satisfying to be the first graduate of the Alpine Academy to be in a race seat with the team, and I’m extremely thankful to those who supported me along the way to make this a reality.”
With Doohan’s promotion, Alpine aims to inject fresh talent into their lineup and continue building on their progress in Formula 1, looking to make strides forward with their young and dynamic driver pairing in 2025.
