NO DEAL AUDI NO DEAL ALIPINE DEAL FOR CARLOS SIANZ MOVES TO WILLIAMS
Carlos Sainz has committed his future to Williams, agreeing to a multi-year deal to race alongside Alex Albon. The 29-year-old Spaniard, who lost his Ferrari drive to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, was highly sought after by several teams, including Sauber/Audi and Alpine. Ultimately, it was James Vowles' ambitious Williams project that secured Sainz’s signature.
Sainz’s contract will see him race for Williams in 2025 and 2026, ensuring continuity for the team amid significant regulatory changes. These changes include a new aerodynamic profile and new power unit rules emphasizing 100% sustainable fuel. "I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards," Sainz stated. "This year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex, but I am confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey."
Sainz expressed pride in joining Williams, a team with a storied history where many of his childhood heroes once raced. "The ultimate goal of bringing Williams back to where it belongs, at the front of the grid, is a challenge that I embrace with excitement and positivity," he said. He believes Williams has the right elements to make history again and vowed to give his absolute best starting January 1.
The decision was influenced significantly by the leadership at Williams. "I want to thank James Vowles and the entire Board of Williams for their trust and determination. Their solid leadership and convictions have played an important role in my decision-making," Sainz noted. He emphasized that the success of a team lies in its people and culture, areas where he feels Williams excels.
"Williams is synonymous with heritage and pure racing," Sainz added. "The foundations of the project that lies ahead of us are very strong, and I am really looking forward to being part of it starting next year."
Sainz's move to Williams marks a significant step for both the driver and the team, as they aim to rise through the ranks and reclaim their place at the forefront of Formula 1. With Sainz's experience and determination, combined with Albon's skills, Williams is poised for a promising future.
